1. Consultation
Initial chat and understanding the brief
- In the initial consultation, we will talk through your aspirations and thoughts for your garden and, if known, the desired form, function, look and feel you are wanting to achieve.
(The initial consultation carries no obligation to proceed any further and is free of charge. However, if the client so wished, Riley Landscape would put forward a fee proposal based on the clients requirements and desires for their garden, which would be agreed before the following work elements are undertaken.)
- Carry out an existing garden analysis including a photographic record, identifying opportunities and constraints (i.e. features to retain, any potential planning requirements…)
- Consider whether any other specialists are needed to be brought into the design early on (i.e. engineer, arboriculturalist…)
- Assess whether a topographical survey is needed, based on complexity of existing site with regards to level change, structures, boundaries, landform, planting and utilities
- Discuss timescales and budgets
2. Concept Design
- Look at how the new garden design will sit in relation to its surroundings
- Explore garden spaces, routes and flow options
- Concept ideas, sketches and illustrations
- Precedent imagery of different garden elements
3. Sketch studies and proposed Garden Plan
- Meet to discuss initial design and produce a draft Sketch design option / Garden landscape plan
(depending on complexity and client preference, at this point, the client may want to take the garden landscape plan to a reputable and competent landscape contractor to work collaboratively with them to develop and build their garden. Alternatively, they can move onto the next stage with Riley Landscape):
4. Detailed Design
- Produce a series of detailed drawings such as landscape layout, sections, details, setting out, planting etc. These can be used as part of a tendering process, or go out directly to a preferred garden contractor if known and if the client so wishes.
Riley Landscape can guide you through the costing, planning (where applicable), tendering stages as well as offer an advisory role through construction and beyond with regards to garden management and maintenance. We can tailor a design and / or advice package that suits your needs and budget. See Portfolio section of website for project photographs.
Please get in touch for an initial chat. Thank you.
